BBC Music Introducing Showcase – a review

A night at the Lexington in London, as the audience anticipates three rising stars to take to the stage. A showcase that BBC puts on every year, that puts their favourite new artists at the forefront – so audiences can continue to support rising talent and support live music, that is ever more important.

Liang Lawrence was first up in this incredible lineup, as she captivates the audience with her soft and unique tone. All backed with an acoustic guitar, so you can really hear the poetic lyricism. Her discography is almost comforting – like a friend giving you a warm hug- and she is someone I have mentioned over on the blog’s Instagram page for a while. She also played an unreleased song, ‘Eulogy,’ which is now out in the world and a track that is on repeat for me. Her music became more elevated onstage, as most songs do, and I could see the audience taking in every lyric, as I believe Liang does an incredible job at connecting to an audience. Liang is definitely selling out arenas in no time, and I was grateful to see her in such an intimate venue.

Already into an incredible night of live music, Siobhan Winifred took the stage next and I was very excited to hear her tracks live, as her discography was a little more unknown to me. As well as this, live music can really elevate a song, allowing you to love it more as you can really hear the arrangements. Accompanied by her talented band, Siobhan takes on an alt/indie genre that is extremely vibrant live, contrasting with her warm tone and beautiful vocals. I found a lot of the crowd was already fans of her, singing every lyric as she radiates that love back. I am now a big fan of her and her music after this night and she is definitely one to watch as she is a rising star.

Lastly, Alfie Templeman finished the night off with a bang. An artist I have seen live previous, and it has always been a show I have talked about days after, and this night was no exception. Again, accompanied by his talented band, he rocked the stage. With Templeman’s discography being under the dance/electronic genre (but very unique to him), mixed with the multitude of instruments that were on stage (including a tambourine because Alfie can truly do it all), it was the perfect mix to create a talented show, that makes you feel connected to the music he makes. A lot of the music played that night was unreleased, set to be on his upcoming album, Radiosoul, set to be released on June 7th, and it was a testament to the singer’s incredible talent, and adds an extra layer to the new music. As well as him and the band playing the known hits, creating an incredible atmosphere in the crowd.

One thing Alfie Templeman said onstage is, ‘Thank you for supporting live music,’ which stuck with me after that night, and the importance of showcases like this. An incredible night of live music.
