With her new EP, ‘Watch it Ache and Bleed’, being released a few weeks ago, alongside her sold-out shows, Nieve is Amplify’s artist of the month.
‘Watch it Ache and Bleed’, is Nieve Ella’s 3rd EP, consisting of the journey of heartbreak and female rage, encompassed in a alt-rock focused production. One track on the record that took my attention immediately was ‘Sweet Nothings’. The build-up matches her vocals, and feels very uniquely her style – you can really feel her emotions through that backing production. This comes pre-chorus, but the height of it comes in the bridge – before she breaks off into singing almost the chords of the track. It feels a little lighter, in terms of the track resembling her want for someone, but seems to be in a more positive light, amongst the more heartbreak focused songs/the ones clearly representing a more melancholic sound. However, that just frames that journey, and the mixed feelings of such. The height of the chorus in the track starts with ‘Won’t you spit it out’, as her vocals rise. This finds itself to me, to bring styles of artists like ‘Sam Fender’, which really drew me to this EP – indie music is back! There is a contrast within the record, with tracks like, ‘The Reason’, which focuses in on Nieve’s incredible vocals and range, with just a piano backing to emphasise the emotion. This EP really shows the range of style and sound that Nieve is tapping into more, and that is able to do successfully, keeping to her authentic sound always. When you hear a song, you will know it is hers.

Just prior to this EP, Nieve finished her opener run with Girl in Red, opening in venues such as Wembley Arena, with her talented band. ‘Ganni Top – She Gets What She Needs’, is a track from ‘Watch it Ache and Bleed’, and gained a lot of traction pre-release, especially when opening here – with crowds knowing the words – which speaks to her dedicated fanbase, and talents live. This year, she also did her first headline tour, a run of UK shows, that were sold out. Again, the crowd knowing every word. I managed to attend the first show Nieve did on the tour in London, only close to 2 years into her career, and the energy was completely electric, the band and Nieve bouncing off of the crowd and vice versa, sounding exactly the same live as on track. Really speaks to her star quality.
Heartstopper also played a part in her non-stop year, with recently putting her track, ‘Car Park’, in season 3 of the show, bringing a bigger audience to more of her work.
Nieve just announced her next headline tour, starting in February across the EU, and I can see the songs from the new EP, being incredible to hear live. A rockstar who will continue to rise quickly, and keeping to her true self in her music and online whilst doing so.
