At Amplify, we are always shining a light on new artist we love, and for the audience to know them better. One of those artists is Hannah Green.
Already amassing a following on TikTok, Instagram and Spotify, whilst only having started releasing on Spotify in 2023, she is definitely on the rise. As a songwriter and a storyteller above all, she releases music that is authentically hers whilst touching on experiences that everyone can deeply relate to. Her first record, ‘Hold Me Close’, keeps to the most acoustic tone in production level, focusing in on the lyricism and story itself that Hannah does so gracefully. However, she can also play into the higher level production that indie-folk can bring with her recent track,’Centre Stage’. Yet, still evoking the emotion she does.
One in particular that struck with me, as Hannah often speaks online about being a mental health advocate – a topic sensitive and important to many, is ‘Man on The Moon’. The lyricism sticks out to me within this, as the song writes about ‘flying away’ – ‘a one way ticket to Mars’ – and ‘I just wanna get far from where we are’. Therefore, using the personification of those actually taking flight to space but putting it towards the artist feeling like she needs an escape from her reality/her mind. The repitition of the lyric, ‘I wanna get far’, puts a high emphasis on this struggle she is facing, one that listeners can connect to, as it continues to build at the end of the song in production, and in tone. The ability to have that storyline threaded throughout is beautiful, with her singing in a tone that’s hopeful yet painful tone. One section in the beginning of the song describes ‘the man on the moon’, then the next verse begins with ‘the girl in a crowded room’ – how the ‘man on the moon must be lonely’ yet ‘the girl in a crowded room must be fine’, creating this difference that she actually longs for – an escapism away from the crowds (far away in distance being within space but comparing it to wanting her own mind to be far away from her/ ‘the girl’. ‘Down with the people’, adds to the picture of outerspace vs Earth, that builds a story surrounding such a feeling. Paired with a beautiful production and vocals, it is one that keeps Hannah an incredible songwriter in an original way.

She is also rising on TikTok, as many artists pave their way on the platform to help gain audiences as is one of the most impactful ways to nowadays. With a pinned Tiktok on her page all about getting to know her, audiences can be immediately in the know, finding how authentic she is through songwriting and social media, as she tries to capture situations everyone goes through but also tapping into personal experiences. She always teases upcoming new music on top of that, showcasing just her voice and lyricism within the music over there, keeping it simplistic and authentic but capturing audiences with a quick backstory of the song – something that usually sparks my interest on the app.
Hannah Green is definitely an artist to watch, having already performed at Greenbelt Festival, with upcoming music on the way! You can listen to her below:
